SeaWorld Rescue Team Returns Manatee

SeaWorld’s animal rescue team traveled to Merritt Island, Fla., this morning to return manatee Kahula, who weighs close to 900 pounds, to east coast waters.

He was rescued August 8, 2011 from Cape Canaveral, Fla. due to a plastic band entanglement that may have been around his body for 3 or 4 years.

The band was deeply imbedded into his skin but did not compromise any vital organs.

During Kahula’s time at SeaWorld Orlando, he received supportive care with antibiotic treatments and was monitored until his return.

For 45 years, SeaWorld’s rescue team has helped animals in need — ill, injured and orphaned.

More than 20,000 animals have been rescued by their experts.‪

SeaWorld’s animal rescue team is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
