Scrap Metal Fire in Port of Tampa

Tampa, Florida — Thick, dark smoke is rising as a scrap metal fire burns in the Port of Tampa.

There’s no word on what started the two-alarm fire. Workers were piling up sheet metal to shred when they noticed flames.

Investigators say the pile, which is about three stories high, had appliances and machinery in it. There are no other chemicals or gas tanks nearby, and the fire did not spread far enough to get to the port’s water.

Investigators are on scene to determine what caused the blaze.
