Scott Up Against Deadline On 21 Bills

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ Florida Gov. Rick Scott is up against a deadline to act on several major bills, including a sweeping education bill that would allow parents to move their children to schools across county lines.

Scott must act Thursday on 21 bills.

He can sign them, veto them or let them become law without his signature.

Bills on his desk include one dealing with Citizens Property Insurance and legislation that creates a pilot program aimed at bringing grocery stores to areas that don’t have access to fresh food.

The sweeping education bill (HB 7029) combined several unrelated education measures into one comprehensive bill.

It includes many changes for high school athletics.

It allows private schools to join a state sports association on a per-sport basis and makes students who transfer immediately eligible.
