Sarasota Police Seeking Coin Theft Suspects



The Sarasota Police Department is asking for help from the public identifying four people believed to be involved in a major coin theft over the weekend.

Officers were dispatched to the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium at 801 North Tamiami Trail in reference a grand theft of coins. The victim told officers the theft occurred sometime between Saturday, October 25th at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

This surveillance video shows the suspects entering the coin show. One suspect walks through the show, waits for vendors to leave, approaches a table and steals the coins. Then all four suspects leave.

Several minutes later, two of the four subjects return to the same table as before, take more items and leave again.

The two are describded as Hispanic males. One is 5’9″ and the other is between 5’3″ and 5’4″. They’re believed to be between 30 and 39 years old. One of them is heavy set.

Police say all of the suspects appear to be working together. According to police, the coins are worth between $50,000 and $100,000.
