Woman, 90, Suffers Burns In St. Petersburg Fire

St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to a house fire at 1719 19th Ave S. around 3:05 a.m. Tuesday.

Arriving crews found heavy smoke and flames and raced in to extinguish the fire.

While extinguishing the blaze they found a 90-year-old woman who had third degree burns to her face and torso and had to be flown to Tampa General Hospital for burn treatment. Four people live in the house.

WFTS-TV reports that Latasha Dunbar said her grandmother will turn 91 on Wednesday. They also report that Dunbar says her brother tried to save his grandmother by himself but the smoke was too thick.

The fire is under investigation at this time.
