We are one step closer to finalizing the design of the new St. Petersburg pier. The selection committee has ranked three pier designs, and the Pier Park design has come out on top. People polled months ago had overwhelmingly chosen Destination St. Pete Pier as their top design. The committee gave that design a second-place rating. ALMA, by Alfonso Architects, Inc. was ranked third. Hundreds of people showed up for the public comment section of the meeting Thursday, which lasted hours. The entire selection meeting wrapped up just before midnight. Now City Council has to approve the ranking of the top three designs. If it is approved, negotiations can begin with the first ranked design team.
