Officer Involved Crash Shuts Down US-19

A three vehicle crash involving a police cruiser shut down US-19 in St. Petersburg early Monday morning, according to St. Petersburg Police.

Per police, at 12:27 a.m., the crash happened in the 3100 block of US-19 in St. Petersburg. The officer, 62-year-old Gregory Totz, a sworn officer for 39 years, and four other people were taken to Bayfront Hospital with varying injuries, none of them life-threatening.

St. Petersburg police shut down US-19 between 30th Ave. N. and 34th Ave. N. It will remain closed to traffic in all directions for at least an hour, they say.

At this time it is not clear how the accident occurred, or which direction the cruiser was headed. Police say a pursuit was not involved.

The investigator at the scene will send an update when it becomes available.
