Mom smoked crack in front of 4 year old

A 26-year-old pregnant mother of three was arrested Wednesday morning after, police said, she was spotted smoking crack cocaine in the presence of her 4-year-old son.

Police said they found Angela Lee Summerall, 26, of St. Petersburg in a 1996 Chevrolet SUV on the 900 block of 22nd Avenue S with her 4-year-old son and a man who has a lengthy arrest record on drug-related charges.

The man told officers Summerall approached him and asked about buying crack cocaine, police said. He said he doesn’t know her beyond their interaction Wednesday, when he said he provided her an apparatus with which to smoke the drug.

As officers questioned Summerall, who also uses the alias Angela Kirchner, her husband, Robert, came to pick up the little boy. He told police he wasn’t surprised she had been caught smoking crack — this wasn’t the first time.

Summerall, who has served a year in state prison for cocaine possession, faces charges of child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia. She’s being held at the Pinellas County Jail on a bail of more than $10,000. She told police she has smoked crack previously during her pregnancy, police spokesman Mike Puetz said.

Summerall told officers she had let the 4-year-old boy play outside the car while she was smoking inside, Puetz said.

According to the arrest affidavit, the child called the crack pipe a “cigarette.” The Department of Children and Families has been notified, Puetz said.

“She acknowledged she has an addiction,” Puetz said. “She said she’s a frequent purchaser and user of crack and that today, she just went to her usual spot.”

The man in the car told officers he provided the pipe, but did not smoke crack with Summerall. He was not arrested.

Police said the homemade pipe was in Summerall’s pants.

Officers were originally dispatched to the area about 8:15 a.m. to investigate reports of a potential burglary of a vacant home, Puetz said.
