Man Walks Away From Lightning Strike

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Authorities say lightning apparently struck a man who had taken refuge from the rain under the awnings at a St. Petersburg gas station.

But the man appeared to be OK, though shaken up after the Sunday afternoon incident.

A group of motorcyclists stopped to take shelter from the rain when store owner Matt Yaghoubi heard a loud, crashing sound. A moment later two bikers walked inside the station. The victim was slowly shaking his head.

Emergency responders treated the man at the scene. Yaghoubi says the man was a bit pale and was told he had elevated blood pressure. The EMTs monitored him for a short time before releasing him.

Yaghoubi also says the lightning knocked out service to his gas pumps.
