Lakewood High Lockdown Lifted, No Gun Found

A St. Petersburg high school’s lockdown has been lifted Friday morning.

The school resource officer at Lakewood High School was told around 10:20 a.m. Friday that a student may have taken a gun onto campus, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Additional units, including a police K-9, were called in to help search the campus for a gun. Officers found a student with an ice pick but no actual gun was found. The lockdown was lifted at 11:36.

The student found with the replica handgun will be charged with Disruption of a School Function and since he was on felony probation, he will be charged with Violation of Probation, police said.

The other student found in possession of the ice pick will be charged with bringing a weapon on to campus.
