Girl, 6, Attacked By Great Dane In St. Pete

A 6-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after she was attacked by a Great Dane in unincorporated St. Petersburg Monday night, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the King of the Road Mobile Home Park located at 5701 Haines Road at approximately 5:45 p.m. regarding a dog attack.

According to deputies, the dog’s owner, David Watson, was walking his 130 pound, male, Great Dane on a leash in the common area of the mobile home park when several children in the park approached David and the dog “Otis” and began to pet the dog near lot #513. The victim also approached the dog and began to pet him when he attacked her. As the victim went to the ground the dog bit her in the face, neck and head.

The victim, identified as 6-year-old Ariel Hampshire was transported to a local hospital via ambulance for treatment of serious lacerations.

Pinellas County Animal Control was contacted and took possession of the dog.

No charges are pending at this time.
