Tragedy Averted In St. Petersburg Plane Crash

Tragedy is averted after a small plane crashed at St. Petersburg’s Albert Whitted Airport Friday about noon.

The single engine plane was trying to take off when something went wrong. The plane skidded off the end of the runway and ended up in three foot deep water in Tampa Bay.

Two Good Samaritans jumped in the water along with the U.S. Coast Guard and pulled the 78 year old pilot and his 72 year old passenger to safety. Both were taken to a nearby hospital, where the pilot is said to by OK and the passenger is being treated for minor injuries.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the mishap.
