Dog Stabbed After Biting 4 Year Old

A 4-year-old Seminole girl and a 9-year-old dog are both being treated for injuries received during an encounter with each other Monday.

According to police, around 8:50 a.m., the girl and her grandparents were eating outside at the McDonald’s at 650 150th Ave. in Madeira Beach when the girl approached the Golden Retriever.  The dog bit her lip and her grandfather, 48-year-old Shaw Riley, then stabbed the dog twice in the neck with a pocket knife. The dog retreated to a row boat off the dock.

The girl was taken to All Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and may need reconstructive surgery to her lip.

The dog was treated at the scene by Madeira Beach Fire Rescue and was taken into custody.

Deputies say the dog’s owners, both transients, and the child’s grandparents know each other. An investigation is still underway.
