The incident happened just before midnight at 27th Street and 26th Avenue South. When officers arrived, they found a 20 year old deceased man, eventually identified as Malcom Treyvon Moses Lawrence. Nearby residents report hearing gunshots in the area.
Preliminary information from the scene indicates he was shot, the medical examiner removed the body a short time ago.
A homicide detective is actively working the case. 27th St. S. was closed until daylight.
Detectives do not believe this was a random act.
