Accidental Shooting Leaves 1 Dead In Pinellas Park

A shooting in Pinellas Park has left one person dead Tuesday morning.

At 6:13am officers and rescue personnel responded to 5271 87th Avenue N. in reference to reports that an adult male had shot himself. When the officers arrived they found several family members inside and outside of the home. An adult male was found inside the residents with trauma to his face consistrant with that of a gunshot wound. Once the scene was determined to be safe, rescue personnel entered the residence and attempted to render aide to the victim.

According to police, Dennis Eugene Emery, 57 was involved in a verbal argument with his wife inside the home.

During the argument Emery retrieved a firearm from somewhere in the home and threatened to shoot one of the family dogs.

Emery pulled the hammer back on the revolver he was holding as if he was going to follow through with his threat.

At some point Emery started to release the hammer back to a safe position. He pointed the gun at his face while he was lowering the hammer and the firearm discharged, striking him in the face. Emery died as a result on this.

The Pinellas Park Police Department has had 34 contacts with Emery since 2012. Most recently, Emery was arrested 3 times in 5 days.
