RV Coming To Miami To Screen Beachgoers For Skin Cancer

MIAMI (AP) — As the summer sun beats down on Florida, a big yellow RV designed to diagnose and treat skin cancer will be roaming the streets.

The Skin Cancer Foundation’s 38-foot (12-meter) mobile clinic is visiting Miami June 9-10. The RV has two exam rooms where dermatologists will give free screenings and educate patients about how to protect themselves from the sun, treat sunburns and what medications cause photosensitivity.

Skin cancer is already the most common form of cancer in the United States. The organization estimates that 7,940 Floridians will be diagnosed with melanoma, one of the most dangerous forms of skin cancer, this year. But with early detection, skin cancers are almost always curable.

The mobile clinic is starting in New York this week and will make 40 stops before ending in Boston in August.
