There used to be a thrill in vowing to be a committed partner “for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer.” Nowadays, fewer people are willing to take the plunge unless that last part – for poorer – can get worked out ahead of time. Waiting for financial stability is one reason the percentage of Americans older than 25 who have never married has reached an all-time high.
