Polk Woman Charged With First-Degree Murder

The Polk County woman who was accused of murdering her husband and daughter Monday morning has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, reports Bay News 9. She was denied bond.

Cheyanne Jessie, 25, is also charged with one count of evidence tampering.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Jessie killed 50-year-old Mark Weekly and 6-year-old Meredith Jessie on July 18 inside Weekly’s home. She then returned a few days later and put the remains inside two plastic tote bags, dumping them inside a neighbor’s shed.

Jessie later reported the two missing. However, after being arrested Monday, Jessie told detectives she acted in self-defense after Weekly pulled out a knife during a physical altercation with her.

Jessie said Weekly stabbed Meredith in the throat and she acted out of self-defense by shooting him.
