Polk County Teen Hit, Killed By 3 Pickup Trucks

EAGLE LAKE, Fla. — Deputies say a 15-year-old student died after being stuck by three pickup trucks near Lakeland.

Polk County Sheriff’s officials say Codey Means was walking to Lake Region High School in Eagle Lake early Wednesday when he darted across U.S. 17 in front of a pickup truck.

Authorities say 48-year-old Juan Camacho of Kissimmee tried to veer right to avoid the teen but he struck the boy. Two other pickup trucks then struck the boy. All three drivers stopped and attempted to revive the teen. He died at the scene.

The teen’s parents were notified and came to the scene, along with a sheriff’s office chaplain and victim advocates.

Officials say a crisis team will be available to students at the high school.
