CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a 22-year-old man is accused of intentionally dropping a baby he was watching onto a tile floor because she wouldn’t stop crying.
Clearwater police arrested Joseph Kenneth Oliver on Tuesday after physicians at Mease Countryside Hospital noticed the abuse when the child was brought there Monday night.
The 9-month-old child was transferred to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, where authorities say she’s in critical condition.
The St. Petersburg Times reports (http://bit.ly/oxQx50 ) reports Oliver is charged with aggravated child abuse. The newspaper reports Oliver told police he dropped the child at least two times out of frustration because she was crying.
Oliver’s relationship to the child was not clear. He remained in the Pinellas County Jail Wednesday on a $100,000 bond. No attorney was listed for Oliver.
