The suspect in a series of sexual batteries and home invasions this morning at apartment complexes near the University of South Florida in Tampa has been captured following a police chase.
Hillsborough County deputies say Charlie Christopher Bates, 24, was captured after 12:30 p.m. around on U.S. 301, just north of Interstate 4, after he was spotted in a vehicle.
Bates was shot at least once, and no law enforcement officials were injured, deputies say.
The capture occurred almost two hours after Bates was identified as the suspect during a joint news conference with deputies and the Tampa Police Department.
