Pinellas Bed Tax May Rise In Near Future

Vacationing in Pinellas County may cost more in the near future, as commission votes Tuesday on whether to hike the bed tax from five to six percent.

The raise in tax would, in effect, give the county right around $7 million more per year. As of now, the county has $35 million for things like marketing to tourists around the country, beach replenishment, and possibly a new Rays’ stadium.

Opponents say hiking the cost of vacationing could cost Pinellas County business, as it could drive tourists to go elsewhere.
