On April 3rd at 2:30 PM, a 2002 Honda Mazda 262, driven by James E. Yant, 56, of Lutz, was traveling eastbound on SR-56 in the left turn lane so as to turn north and enter the northbound entrance ramp to I-75.
A Pasco County School Bus, was traveling westbound on SR-56 in the outside lane. The Mazda turned left in front of the school bus which resulted in the front of the bus colliding with the passenger side of the Mazda.
The Mazda rotated clockwise and came to rest at the north side of the intersection. The bus came to final rest facing west also at the north side of the intersection.
Yant was the only occupant of his vehicle who was restrained. He had two passangers in the car with him — Felicia F. Smith, 23, and Frederick L. Whiting, 27, both of Lutz, Florida. All three were taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.
