Gov. Scott: “State Of Emergency” In 5 Counties

(UPDATE   5 p.m.)     Governor Scott has declared a state of emergency for five counties.

Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Taylor, and Dixie counties are now eligible for state and federal disaster relief.

Earlier:

Governor Scott is being asked to declare a state of emergency in Pasco County.

Meantime, elected officials who will ask for disaster relief at the state and federal levels are touring the flood area, especially the town of Elfers where high waters from the Anclote River damaged several hundred homes and businesses.

A flood warning remains in effect there because coming high tides may bring more flooding.

Officials are out with a warning to those looking for a flood clean up company.

Hire only a licensed contractor, get everything in writing, and never pay up front.

Flooded parts of the bay area are ripe for scammers looking to take the money and run.
