Panhandle Deputy Shot

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Florida Panhandle deputy was shot in the stomach while chasing a suspect, but his body armor prevented serious injury.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office reports that 32-year-old Ryan Robinson and two other deputies went to the Oakwood Terrace Apartments in Pensacola Wednesday night.

As they got out of their vehicle, two men took off running.

The Pensacola News-Journal reports that Robinson and a second deputy chased the men on foot.

At some point, one of the men turned around and shot Robinson. Robinson returned fire, but it wasn’t known if the bullet hit the suspect.

Robinson was taken to a nearby hospital, but he was expected to recover.

Authorities are still looking for both men who ran from deputies.
