Orlando Pledges $75 Million For UCF Campus

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The city of Orlando is committing $75 million to the University of Central Florida’s downtown campus project.

Multiple news outlets report Orlando has agreed to pledge $42 million in land and property alone in addition to road and sewer work. The agreement is set to be presented Monday to the City Council.

The university is seeking approval from the Board of Governors to build a 165,000-square-foot building in fall 2018 for 7,700 students as part of the larger Creative Village project on the western side of downtown Orlando. It also seeks $20 million from the state.

University spokeswoman Christine Dellert says the university has been working with the city on the project for the past year.

Mayor Buddy Dyer says the deal creates positive momentum in favor of the project.
