Odor in Cockpit Forces Emergency Landing

Authorities now say it was an odd odor in the cockpit and not smoke that forced a flight from Puerto Rico to Atlanta to make an emergency landing in South Florida.

Delta spokeswoman Sarah Lora says airline officials are still trying to determine what caused the smell Sunday morning on Flight 418.

The flight landed safely at Palm Beach International Airport.

Lora says the emergency landing was precautionary.

Airport officials initially told The Palm Beach Post that smoke in the cockpit forced the plane to make an emergency landing.

Lora says 120 of the 180 passengers on board were rerouted.

Another plane was sent to pick up the remaining 60 passengers.
