Obama Invites GOP Leaders To White House

It will be his first sit down with House Speaker Paul Ryan. President Obama and Mitch McConnell of course go way back. Which is why it is interesting that after the initial meeting with both Ryan and McConnell, it will be solely Speaker Ryan who will join the president for lunch.

There are some issues the White House feels where there is enough common ground to get legislation passed… the heroin epidemic, Puerto Rico’s debt crisis, authority to use military force against ISIS. But the two leaders have had some tricky moments in the past (Obama famously dressed down Ryan’s budget plan during a speech, with Ryan glaring while sitting 25 feet in front of him), and this may be an effort to start their relationship anew.
