BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A rainy day in north Alabama could turn into wintry weather by early Saturday.
Forecasters say northern counties could receive a mix of rain and snow overnight Friday as a rainy low pressure system moves eastward.

As much as a half-inch of snow is possible, particularly in grassy areas. And the National Weather Service says bridges and elevated roads could be icy by Saturday morning.
The weather service says snow could fall in areas including metro Birmingham, Huntsville, Anniston, Decatur, Fort Payne and Gadsden.
Any problems won’t linger since temperatures are expected to rise into the upper 40s and low 50s during the day Saturday.
The heaviest rains are predicted in southeast Alabama as the storm system moves across the state.
