North Port’s Fatal Fire Being Investigated as Homicide

NORTH PORT, Fla. (AP) _ Police and fire officials are investigating after a woman and a boy died in a southwest Florida house fire.

Officials haven’t yet released the names of the victims in the April 3 fire because the medical examiner’s office is still working to confirm their identities.

But the Sarasota Herald-Tribune (http://bit.ly/HibCbG ) reports the victims are a 43-year-old woman and her 8-year-old son.

The state fire marshal’s office says an accelerate was used to start the fire about 5 a.m. Tuesday in the garage of the one-story home.

North Port police spokesman Robert Estrada says it isn’t known whether the victims died before the fire started.

The deaths are being investigated as homicides.

Police had no suspects on Wednesday.
