No Sales Tax This Weekend

What happens when you add a sales tax holiday and an outlet mall opening on the same weekend? Congestion.

Rarely does the Business Journal write traffic reports, but we thought we’d help you avoid the expected bumper-to-bumper — of cars and shopping carts.

The state’s sales tax holiday begins this Friday, Aug. 2 and runs though Sunday, Aug. 4. Certain back-to-school purchases, such as clothing ($100 or less), school supplies ($50 or less per purchase), computer software ($350 or less), personal computers ($3,500 or less) and other items are exempt from sales tax.

Most cities are participating in the sales tax holiday, providing local sales tax exemption on top of the state exemption. The state sales tax exemption is 4.225 percent.
