NAPLES, Fla. (AP) _ Smithsonian magazine has pronounced Naples and Key West two of the best small towns in America.
The two Florida cities were listed in the magazine’s rankings of “The 20 Best Small Towns in America” in the May issue.
The article says the goal was to find the best cultural havens where “travelers could experience what might be called enlightened good times in an unhurried, charming setting.”
Naples was ranked No. 9 on the strength of its beauty, philharmonic orchestra and an abundance of art galleries. Key West, which the magazine calls a “haven for creativity,” came in at No. 16.
Great Barrington, Mass., was rated the No. 1 small town.
