Mother And Daughter Shot In Home Invasion

LAND O’LAKES — A woman and her 14-year-old daughter were shot early Wednesday morning when they interrupted a home invasion in Land O’Lakes, authorities said.

Both were shot in the abdomen and flown to St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said. They are expected to recover, but the mother underwent surgery overnight, said Melanie Snow, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office. The victims have not been identified.

The mother and daughter do not live in the home at 20045 Valdez Lane where the shooting happened. Authorities said the woman and teen were called there around 1:30 a.m. by someone inside who was worried about sounds coming from the living room.

Deputies believe three men were involved in the shooting, and they said as many as seven people were inside the house when the violence broke out. The suspects are at large.

Snow said deputies have responded to the Valdez Lane home before, “but not for anything substantial.”

They do not yet know what the motive was for the home invasion.

A major crimes unit and a forensic unit were dispatched to the scene and the incident is under investigation.
