WASHINGTON (AP) — A Congressional commission formed following the scandal over long wait times for veterans needing health care says problems with access still remain. The Commission on Care is releasing a report today that says there are still “profound deficiencies” in delivering health care to millions of military veterans. The panel says the VA’s health care operations “require urgent reform.”

Last night in St. Pete a man set a woman on fire during an argument. The incident took place at 2800 24th Avenue South in St. Petersburg. Just before 8:00 p.m., an argument took place inside the home between 37 year old John M. Riggins and his girlfriend, 37 year old Sheron K. Pasco. Riggins took a gas can and poured the contents onto Pasco and set her on fire. Pasco’s aunt put Pasco into a tub to extinguish the flames. Riggins ran out of the house with possibly both of his arms on fire. Pasco was airlifted by Bayflite to Tampa General Hospital with severe burns covering her body. Police found John Riggins hiding in the vacant house next door. He had burns and was taken to be treated at the hospital. He is in custody and will be questioned. Preliminary information from the scene hasn’t been confirmed. Investigators are still trying to determine how Sheron Pasco was burned. The incident is still under investigation. She remains in critical condition.

UNDATED (AP) — Federal officials say they’re expanding tests to speed up airport lines and improve security. The Transportation Security Administration says it plans to begin using CT scanners to inspect carry-on bags at one checkpoint in the Phoenix airport by the end of the year. The process is mostly automated, the scanners generate 3-D images that are analyzed by computers. Security workers only check a bag if something is suspicious.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A man has been accused of groping six people, including teenagers, at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park in Florida. According to media reports, one of the victims told Orange County Sheriff’s deputies that she and 27-year-old Aman Bhatia were in the wave pool on Sunday. She says that as waves crashed over her, she felt Bhatia’s hands all over her body.

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) — A man was arrested in central Florida after authorities say he stole an ambulance. The ambulance had just delivered a patient to Central Florida Regional Hospital on Tuesday when the man hopped into the driver’s seat and took off. A firefighter-EMT who had been in the back of the ambulance jumped out and was not injured. The man made it to an industrial area about 2 miles away before stopping at the dead end of a street. A bystander saw the man and detained him until police arrived moments later.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The U.S. Air Force has apologized to Derek Jeter after an active-duty member posted a photo on Facebook of a citation issued to the retired New York Yankee shortstop for boating in a restricted area near MacDill Air Force Base. Jeter was stopped by Air Force security forces on July 4 and ticketed $250 plus a $30 processing fee. A spokesman says the airman will “face the appropriate disciplinary action.”

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — There’s no winning ticket in last night’s Mega Millions drawing, estimated at $454 million. Virginia Lottery spokesman John Hagerty says THAT means the jackpot for the next drawing on Friday will be an estimated $508 million.
