The interior minister said the security forces “continue to neutralize terrorist threat, troops now in mop up operations in the building.”
But a Twitter account purporting to represent the Somali terror group Shabab claimed Tuesday that the operation wasn’t over.
“The hostages who were being held by the Mujahideen inside #Westgate are still alive, looking quite disconcerted but, nevertheless, alive,” said a Twitter feed attributed to the group, which has claimed responsibility for the attack that has killed 62 people.
[Updated, 3:12 a.m. PDT Sept. 24: The Site Intelligence Group, which monitors international terrorist organizations, confirmed the authenticity of the Twitter account, Shabab’s sixth since the siege began. Previous accounts were suspended.]
