MIAMI (AP) _ A Miami police officer who fatally shot an unarmed man has been fired after a review board found he used “unjustified” deadly force.
The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/Wh6xWs ) reports that Reynaldo Goyos was fired Wednesday, nearly two months after the Miami Police Department’s Firearms Review Board issued its finding.
The shooting happened in February 2011 as Goyos and a multi-agency task force targeted gang members.
According to reports, Goyos approached the suspects’ vehicle and opened fire after seeing a “black object” on Travis McNeil. McNeil died and Kareem Williams was injured.
It was the seventh fatal shooting of a young black man over an eight-month period, raising tensions in inner city neighborhoods.
McNeil’s mother Sheila McNeil said the officer’s firing “doesn’t help my son a whole lot.”
