Mass. Governor Charlie Baker Declares State Of Emergency

Governor Charlie Baker has declared a State of Emergency for Massachusetts and has banned all motor transportation except emergency vehicles effective at midnight.

“We are anticipating an historic Top 5 snowstorm,” he said at a news conference at the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency bunker in Framingham, according to the Boston Globe. “Whiteout conditions and treacherous roads will make driving anywhere extremely dangerous starting around midnight tonight and extending through most of Tuesday. … I can’t stress this part enough. Please stay off the roads.”

Baker is warning the public to be prepared for extended power outages and to be ready for “multiple days” without power.

“We should all prepare for power outages and impassable roads,” he said.

State offices will be closed Tuesday.
