Man Tries to Hire Cellmate to Kill wife

LARGO, Fla. (AP) _ Authorities say a Tampa Bay-area man awaiting trial tried to hire another inmate to kill his wife.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office says the man wanted his wife killed to prevent her from testifying against him in his trial on aggravated assault charges.

According to investigators, the 50-year-old man told another inmate at the Pinellas County jail that he would pay him money or with a truck to kill his 44-year-old wife.

Investigators say he provided detailed information about his wife’s work hours, place of employment and daily routine, along with maps of her home.

The man was charged Thursday with solicitation to commit murder.

The sheriff’s office says the other inmate he asked to kill his wife alerted authorities to the plot.
