Hernando Fire and Rescue units responded to CEMEX located at 10311 Cement Plant Road in Brooksville on Wednesday after getting 911 calls regarding an industrial accident. When they arrived on scene they found truck driver Ismael Santana, 51, being attended to by fellow employees.
Investigation revealed that Santana was the first truck of the day to dump a load of ash. As Santana was exiting his truck the driver of the front-end loader, who was moving debris from one bin to another, did not see Santana and backed into him, pinninghim against the cabin of his own semi.
He was transported to Bayfront Health Brooksville.
Ismael Santana was pronounced deceased by physicians at 10:09 a.m. due to catastrophic injuries sustained in the accident.
The accident remains under investigation by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). There is no additional information available at this time.
