Local Woman Scammed Out Of Thousands

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ Tampa Bay area police are searching for a man and woman who scammed an 84-year-old woman out of more than $10,000 in cash and $90 worth of jewelry.

St. Petersburg police say the male suspect approached the elderly woman in a Walmart parking lot Friday claiming that he had found $300,000.

The female suspect then joined the conversation, and agreed to put up $50,000 in collateral so that a bank employee the man knew could help them keep the money.

The elderly woman also agreed to put up collateral, returning home to get the money and jewelry.

After handing the collateral over to the man, he told her he would be back in five minutes.

He never returned, and the elderly woman was unable to locate the male or female suspect.
