Thursday morning at 4:20 a.m., Theodore Charles Diller, who is on trial this week for first-degree murder, was taken from his cell by deputies at the Land O’ Lakes Detention Center and being prepared to be transported to the West Pasco Judicial Center in New Port Richey to resume court proceedings.
While in a second story pod, the 70-year-old ran up one flight of stairs and jumped head first over the railing to the floor below.
Diller, who is accused of shooting his wife to death in February 2012, was taken to a local hospital with various injuries, which are still being determined.
No other inmate cell doors were open at the time.
The incident remains under investigation.
