Lakewood Elementary Suffers Fire Damage, Will Not Close

A fire at Lakewood Elementary School will not force the regular school to day to come to a halt. Principle Cynthia Kidd is deciding to keep the school open after investigating all the classrooms.

Firefighters got a call just before 2:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. Within minutes, two unites arrived on scene at Lakewood Elementary School and they realized they needed more units.

The fire was extinguished in 15 minutes.

The fire started in a maintenance garage area, according to investigators. It mostly damaged tools and supplies, but a food service area had some smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but the fire chief says it’s not suspicious.
