Judge Candidates Free Speech Rights being Debated

FLORIDA – A Bay area judges election gets the attention of the US Supreme Court.

At issue is whether judges who run for their seats, can be barred from raising money directly. The Florida Supreme Court ruled that laws barring judge candidates from personally raising money is constitutional because we can’t have judges who are bought and paid for.

But judges need to raise money in order to run as a candidate. New York University Law School Professor Alicia Bannon discusses:
