Local Child Killer Still Not Ready For Trial

Defense attorneys for the bay area man who tossed his 5 year old daughter to her death from a local bridge have told a judge that their client is still not mentally competent to stand trial.

25 year old John Jonchuck was ruled incompetent shortly after his arrest for the January slaying of young Phoebe Jonchuck.

Competency hearings are being held about every 6 months to assess whether Jonchuck has been treated enough at a mental hospital that he can understand the charges against him.

Prosecutors say if they can ever try Jonchuck and get a conviction, they will seek the death penalty.

The next status hearing for Jonchuck is in February.
