The lawyer for former Florida State University quarterback Jameis Winston says he is not surprised an ex-FSU coed filed a civil lawsuit against his client—calling it a “stunt.”
Attorney David Cornwell said Friday, “Ms. Kinsman’s false accusations have already been exposed and rejected six times. This time will be no different. Mr. Winston welcomes the opportunity to clear his name with the truth.”
Kinsman accused Winston of raping her in 2012. Her lawsuit, filed in circuit court in Orlando, alleges sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress arising out of forcible rape.
She is seeking a jury trial and damages in excess of $15,000.
Winston has never been charged criminally with sexually assaulting Kinsman, even though the investigation was done nearly a year after the alleged crime.
A Florida State hearing two years after the alleged assault found Winston did not violate the student conduct code.
Winston is expected to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft on April 30, and go to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
