Woman Found Dead In Hit And Run In Jacksonville

Police Are Searching For Vehicle That Hit And Killed A Woman

Early Thursday morning a woman’s body was found along New Kings Road in Jacksonville in an apparent hit and run. Jacksonville police are investigating, but believe the woman was struck by a vehicle overnight.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office began investigating the scene just before 8 a.m. after her body was found just south of Interstate 295. The identity of the woman has not been released, nor determined at this point.

Police say it is not clear when she was hit, but she died at the scene before help could arrive.

The traffic homicide investigators on the case say the car that struck the woman was traveling southbound and should have damage to the front end, the hood and possibly the windshield.

In addition to searching the scene, detectives are looking for any surveillance cameras in the area of the incident to hopefully learn more about the vehicle that struck the woman or to find a witness that could possibly give more information.

Anyone with information or saw anything suspicious in the area overnight are asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.

Hit-and-runs have been on the rise. This hit-and-run occurred only one-tenth of a mile from where another man and woman were killed Sunday morning. In that case police said a car struck the pair just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of New Kings Road and Finch Avenue. The occupants in the car that struck the man and woman were hospitalized.

In Polk County the search for the person responsible for hitting a woman and police officer is still on going. A car struck a woman and officer that were in the median of State Road 60 in Lake Wales. The woman died and the officer is in serious condition. The car that struck them fled from the scene heading westbound on S.R. 60.
