KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. (AP) — Officials say a crocodile snatched and killed a dog as a woman was walking the animal at a golf course.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission tells the Sun Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1XCBYpD) the crocodile killed the dog Saturday afternoon at Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne.
Officials say the woman was walking her medium-sized put bill mix without a leash when the canine approached the water and was killed by the saltwater crocodile.
Lorenzo Veloz, spokesman for the conservation commission, says saltwater crocodiles normally feed on raccoon and possums that approach the water for a drink. He added that the incident could have been prevented if the woman had leashed the dog.
