Over Zealous Pro-Gun Advocate Jamie Gilt Shot in Back by 4 Year Old

JACKSONVILLE – A woman named Jamie Gilt who runs the a “Gun Sense” page on Facebook which promotes Second Amendment rights may have created the most ironically named website of all time. As she was driving near Jacksonville, her four-year-old son picked up her loaded .45 semi-automatic handgun from the back seat, pointed it towards his mom and pulled the trigger. She’s now in stable condition in a hospital after the bullet went through the front seat and passed through her body A sad situation to be sure. But a woman who runs a “Gun Sense” website being accidentally shot by her own child? That is irony.

But it goes beyond irony. The fact that a high-profile pro-gun activist left her pistol lying on the back seat of her truck within reach of a four year old is insane. She’s just lucky that the kid just injured her and didn’t accidentally shoot and kill himself. And this is a woman who uses social media to hector people about how much safer America his when there are more guns.
This should not be moment to gloat. This should be a moment when we’re called back to common sense. If you own a gun, it’s your responsibility to keep it safe from those who might do harm with it. This is exactly why we need sensible restrictions on firearms and not just swallow the NRA line that the presence of a gun always makes the situation safer.
