LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (AP) _ Sheriff’s deputies in southwest Florida are searching for a man who fatally shot a pit bull that belonged to his friend.
According to a Lee County Sheriff’s report, a brindle pit bull named Block was unleashed in Lloyd Rice’s backyard on Sunday. A friend of Rice’s roommate stopped by the house and went into the backyard even though he’d been told the dog was aggressive.
The dog bit the man in the leg.
The News-Press of Fort Myers reports the man left and returned 30 minutes later. The roommate, Marlis Callahan, told deputies his friend went into the backyard. He says he heard a gunshot and saw his friend standing by the kennel. The man then ran from the house.
The dog died.
The sheriff’s office is investigating.
