Juvenile Runs Over Deputy Then Drives Away

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Law enforcement officials say a juvenile deliberately ran over a deputy near Orlando, and authorities are still looking for the suspect.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says in a statement that Sgt. Mary Pearce had active custody orders for the juvenile. The statement says that when confronted by Pearce on Friday morning, the juvenile fled in a vehicle, striking her.

The statement says the juvenile then left the scene in a vehicle.

The sheriff’s office says Pearce was taken to a hospital with injuries. The news release doesn’t provide further details about Pearce or the juvenile. The sheriff is expected to give more information at a briefing outside the hospital later Friday.

The sheriff’s office says via Twitter that officials are keeping the injured deputy in their thoughts and prayers.
